Sensory Movement Academy
Active play, sensory exploration and practical skill building for children who need additional support to participate in everyday life. Activities build on your child's interests, choices and individual abilities.

The Academy offers structured sensory movement activities informed by our team's knowledge of child development, movement and sensory needs. We focus on practicing useful skills through engaging activities, with opportunities for choice, rest and a pace that works for each child.
Movement and body awareness
Practice balance, coordination, strength and endurance through adapted active play. Activities can include stepping, reaching, changing positions and navigating movement challenges.
Sensory exploration and regulation
Explore movement and textures at a comfortable pace, notice body cues and practice strategies for taking breaks, preparing for transitions and returning to an activity.
Everyday participation
Practice using hands together, following activity sequences, making choices and building confidence with play and daily routines.
Support shaped around your child
Families may explore the Academy when a child has developmental delays, sensory processing differences, emotional regulation challenges or difficulty joining active play. Children with musculoskeletal conditions or walking and balance difficulties may also need adapted activities and support to participate comfortably.
We discuss your child's abilities, interests, support needs and any movement precautions before choosing activities. Participation goals can include navigating a play space, using both hands during an activity, recognizing when a break is helpful or participating more confidently in family routines. A diagnosis alone does not determine program fit or funding eligibility.
For pain, new walking changes or other medical concerns, speak with your child's healthcare team about appropriate assessment and movement guidance.
Regional center funding
Self-Determination Program (SDP)
California's Self-Determination Program gives eligible regional center participants more choice in the services and supports used to work toward their Individual Program Plan (IPP) objectives. Families choose supports within their individual budget and spending plan.
Sensory Movement Academy is offered through SDP under service code 331, Community Integration. Its sensory movement activities focus on participation, practical skills and opportunities to engage in everyday life. Funding for your child depends on the approved services and spending plan.
Financial Management Services (FMS)
We currently work with ACE FMS and RITZ FMS, and we are open to working with other FMS providers. Contact us to discuss your provider's requirements and any onboarding needed before services begin.
- Discuss your child's participation goals with your regional center service coordinator and, if you use one, your independent facilitator.
- Ask how the Academy fits your child's IPP objectives, individual budget and spending plan under service code 331.
- Confirm the funding arrangements and required provider paperwork with your FMS and our team before scheduling.

Common questions
Can activities support movement and sensory needs?
Yes. Activities offer opportunities to practice balance, coordination, body awareness, sensory exploration, regulation strategies and daily participation. The activities and level of support depend on your child's needs; progress varies by child.
Does SDP automatically cover the Academy?
No. The service must fit your child's approved plan and funding arrangements. Your service coordinator, independent facilitator if involved, and FMS can help clarify the steps.
Can we use an FMS other than ACE FMS or RITZ FMS?
We are open to working with other FMS providers. Contact us so we can discuss onboarding, paperwork and payment arrangements with your provider.
